Krsnaji teaches that when you come to God or Guru with only Love and Devotion, you are irresistible to Him.

Some people seek God because they want something. They have a need or wish to be fulfilled, so they pray to God and state their requests or come in person to the Guru. The benevolent Divine gives whatever one asks. He may not give it at that very moment, but somewhere in time, it has been sanctioned for that one.

It’s hard to imagine that asking God or Guru, for what you think you need or know you want, could cause any issues. But if you have an understanding of karma, then you know there are three types, Sanchita, Prarabdha, and Kriyamana or Agami. By asking for something in this life, you can be adding to a treasury of karma that can influence the difficulties you may suffer in many lifetimes to come and can even keep you from obtaining liberation.

If you read the ancient stories in holy books, people always asked and were given and it usually ended with them gaining some great boon in their next life. But this is the Kali Yuga, and goodness and saintliness are all but gone. So, how might this work for us now?

An example given by KrsnaGuru was similar to this, suppose you have a terminally ill relative, just a youth, and you ask God to heal him. God cures the youth of the illness, and the young man lives many more years. In those years he has gotten married and had several children. In his career, he was in charge of a large group of people. Later his children married and they each had children. This man’s sphere of influence in life, a life that should have ended in his youth, has grown so large. So who is responsible for the karma created from his life and the karma of those he affected? You are! Even if every action performed by him and those others were all good, they are still actions and will have to be repaid.

The other dangerous aspect of asking God or Guru to change the life that you are here to live, is in the request itself. Suppose you saw a very capable and strong person, and you wanted to marry that person, so you say God help me marry that person. What you do not know is that person only wants to marry a person who will be fully dependent on them. In order to grant your request, God’s universe works in such a way as to have you lose your career path and become physically weak. Even when you ask for something good, the aftermath can be quite unexpected. Truly, we should be very careful about how and what we ask of God.

It is best to come to God and Guru with only love and devotion. Guru will love you and be devoted to you too. He will always set you on the correct path. Trust that all your needs will be met. Your love and devotion are all that He wants. In my own life, I do not want to question the why and why not of what happens. It has taken some time, but I know it is all for my good—whether I can see it or not. All one needs is love, devotion, faith, and patience to let life unfold.
