KrsnaGuruji teaches the root of most material world problems are unfulfilled desires.
Contentment can be found in a simple life. Most of us struggle and work hard for money to provide a comfortable life for our family and ourselves. As we reach one level of comfort, we have already started to plan our next level, then our happiness rests in the fulfillment of that desire.
Desires are unavoidable; we are always seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touching objects. The mind takes the input from the senses and creates many emotionally charged scenarios. Thus, our desire grows when our attachment to those scenarios are formed.
We cannot stop our senses from working. The best tool one can use to control desire is the mind. Bereft of the knowledge to harness this tool, one needs a guide, a Guru. By Grace, He or She can teach an individual to be aware of the mind’s process and to be in control of one’s response.
Sorting out the experience from the response takes practice. I get caught up in it quite often, and then it hits me. The eternal me is not affected by the unsatisfied desire. It has happened that in the midst of crying over hurt feelings, I gain control of my mind and am able grasp what is occurring in my body. The scene is quite astonishing, going for being lost in the response, to being in control of the response. I admit though, there are times when I still choose to cry just a little bit longer. (“Old habits die hard.”)
Complications arise not from setting goals and making plans, but from desire attached to the outcome of those plans. Outcomes are not in our hands. The results and timing of the results may not occur as planned. Try to make the best decisions along the way, choose righteous endeavors and always move forward. There is nothing wrong with moving ahead in life.
A simple life is one where we are not swayed by desire and attachment to the end result of our efforts. KrsnaGuruji teaches us to always work hard and do our very best. Have Faith and Trust in God to provide everything as it should be, at the correct time. Blessed by Guruji, may I grow in Faith each day.
