The easiest thing to do when you don’t have enough money is to rent. You buy only when you have some to spend. Am I saying it right?
There are times in your life, you want to own some of the snazziest stuff or one which will raise the envy of others. But you may not be that well off, so you go ahead and look at websites where they lend you their stuff at a nominal price or exchange it for something else. You may borrow it from your neighbour or friends for a short duration of time.
You can also wait for sales to be announced where these glamorous items can be bought at a minimal price. Retailers And e-commerce websites are tagging you to buy so much that you actually become addicted to their offers or special discount packages. Now the rage had spread across, not only clothes, household items, physical objects to animate beings. There is rent date to whatnots. It’s a good thing for those who care for the money spent. You got to be very scrupulously prudent in the way you spend your hard earned money. This is the view of all the material worldly people.
In spiritual we have a different take on the same matter. There are actually two different points you should consider. The first one is to avoid everything that is used by someone else. They carry the aura of that person. It’s like a ghost in the machine. Whatever the previous owner had used it for, even if it is thoroughly cleaned still carries the essence of that individual. It is contaminated and carries disturbing particles from the earlier occupant. We can say it is haunted. So the people who follow the spiritual path refuse to use or touch stuff which has been used by some other person. This is experienced only by the Arhats or sadhakas, who have begun the spiritual journey.
Now we come to the ones who are adepts and experienced spiritual beings. They deliberately take used or torn and discarded stuff. The reason being these items do not carry the desires of the previous user. He has let it go as a charity and wouldn’t carry any destructive aura. A desireless object wouldn’t have anyone eying it at all. The sages and saints do not have any desires of any kind and they are very highly evolved to destroy any harmful aura or defect in the object which they might be donated. This is the second view from a spiritual perspective. Those who are at the beginning of the spiritual cycle should not touch any object which has desires associated with it.
Renunciation is the motivation of the aspirants and they should avoid all secondhand objects and use only fresh stuff which is very cheap or easy to acquire. Now you decide where you stand in this hierarchy and do accordingly.
