Fate brings you to a point where you become frozen in your tracks, unable to move an inch. You have come face to face with the world of indecision. Panic attacks happen to all those who feel betrayed by normal logical decision making.

When a man becomes too dependent on someone else for taking important decisions for them, he feels betrayed when that person leaves or ditches him. We are so much accustomed to our own parents to make decisions for us that when the time comes to take a hard decision, we feel betrayed. We want to hold on to our insecurities and inabilities and feel we have a shoulder to rest on.

In spiritual too, man does that. He has been used to decision making from the beginning of his career, suddenly is faced by a formidable Guru whose words are gospel truth. Then he falters and runs to the Master the moment he feels threatened by decision making.

Surrender in spirituality doesn’t mean you have become a groveller at the feet of the Master. It only means you have to follow certain guidelines when deciding. The spiritual decision making is confined within the bounds of morality and dharma. All decisions are based on tenets of Dharma and the guidelines are strict as per the Vedic principles. No one is allowed to infringe on these strict codes of conduct. If there is infringement then the penalties are enjoyed for lifetimes to come. Hence the Guru instructs the disciple cautiously. He tells him or her how important it is to decide. He handholds that individual until he is ready to walk on his own. He still watches the student like the Mother tortoise who looks after her baby tortoises from across the river bank.

Sometimes it is hard for the little one to let go so the Mother Guru lets the child fall from the top. That makes the little one spread its wings and fly. I too feel very hard-hearted when I let my disciples fly away. It does hurt me but I have to make myself tough to let that one take charge.

That lesson is of empowerment and taking charge of their own. Since the Gurus agenda is to produce another one like himself, He takes it very seriously to prepare the anointed one for the fall and rise again. So be prepared for that time when the Guru lets go of the string attached and lets you fly on your own. It’s time to take charge and serve the purpose of your birth.
